Schools Are Closed! Hit the Hills to Sled and Ski

There are several great spots for sledding and skiing near Peekskill. Here are a few  options:

Depew Park

Depew Park is a beautiful 185-acre park located in the heart of Peekskill. During the winter months, the park is a popular destination for sledding, with several hills of varying steepness. It’s a great spot for families with young children, as the hills are not too steep.

Blue Mountain Reservation

Located at Peekskill’s southern border, Blue Mountain Reservation is a 1,500-acre park with several hills perfect for sledding. The park has a dedicated sledding hill near the main entrance, but you can also find other hills throughout the park. Note that you will need to bring your own sled or tube. In addition to sledding, the park offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. There are several miles of groomed trails for skiing and snowshoeing, and you can rent equipment on-site.

Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park

Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park is located less than 10 miles from Peekskill and is another great spot for sledding. The park has several hills, including a designated sledding hill near Parking Lot 2. The hill can get pretty steep, so it’s best for older kids and adults. Like Blue Mountain Reservation, you’ll need to bring your own sled or tube.

Fahnestock Winter Park

Fahnestock Winter Park is a 5,000-acre park located in Cold Spring, NY, about 15 miles south of Peekskill. The park offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing. There are over 20 miles of groomed trails for skiing and snowshoeing, and a designated tubing hill for tubing.

Mohawk Mountain Ski Area

Mohawk Mountain Ski Area is a ski resort located in Cornwall, CT, about 40 miles northeast of Peekskill. The resort offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing, with 25 trails of varying difficulty levels. They also have a ski school for beginners and a terrain park for more experienced skiers and snowboarders.

I’ve had the incredible fortune to move to this amazing community 20+ years ago, and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. When I'm not selling homes, you can find me enjoying our local parks or taking in the sunset over the Hudson River. I'll never stop my quest for the perfect hot donut, despite what my waistline may say. Nothing is better than a fresh ..hot...donut. When I'm not snacking my way up the river, I also enjoy the trails at Teatown Reservation and the views over Long Island Sound at of Rye Playland (officially known now as Playland Park...whatever...LOL). I’m looking forward to connecting with you soon! See you around town!
